San Rafael is Marin County's largest city and its county seat, and the housing stock reflects its age and variety. Dominican, the hillsides east of downtown, and Lucas Valley edges near open space ARE in high fire-risk territory. Always verify your parcel's FHSZ designation before finalizing an exterior scope or selecting materials.
Gerstle Park has one of Marin's highest concentrations of pre-1930 homes, and the City of San Rafael maintains a Historic Resources Inventory. Seismically, Marin sits near the San Andreas Fault system, and older homes in Gerstle Park and downtown typically predate foundation-bolting standards.
